Your role and responsibilities

We are looking for a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Specialist to join our team in Helsinki. In this role, you will contribute to improving the HSE performance of the Motors and Generators factory in Helsinki. The HSE Specialist will be part of the site HSE team and support the organization in complying with the ABB HSE Management System as well as applicable legal requirements. We welcome applications from both recent graduates with some HSE-related work experience and experienced professionals with a longer track record in the field.

This is a fixed-term position until 31 August 2027 and requires on-site presence.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Continuous improvement of local HSE processes and instructions based on the ABB Way HSE system and legal requirements
  • Assisting line managers and supervisors in understanding their HSE-related obligations, responsibilities, and requirements for fulfilling their roles, in accordance with local HSE regulations and Group/business-specific requirements
  • Collaborating with external stakeholders (e.g., customers, suppliers, relevant authorities) and internal stakeholders to drive HSE initiatives and improve performance
  • Facilitating HSE risk assessments conducted by line management and conducting activity-based risk assessments on high-risk activities
  • Facilitating, supporting, and providing guidance on incident investigations and reporting to identify opportunities for learning and risk mitigation
  • Contributing to, planning, and executing HSE-related projects

Qualifications for the role

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in an HSE-related field, or alternatively a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Engineering combined with additional HSE training
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity and in-depth knowledge of workplace health, safety and environmental laws and regulations, requirements and methods
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 management systems
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills in Finnish and English
  • Structured and systematic way of working with strong organizational skills
  • Collaborative and solution-focused approach
  • Ability to operate effectively in a complex environment and tolerate uncertainty
  • Understanding of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles

From general purpose to highly customized designs, synchronous motors and high voltage induction motors provide high efficiency, reliability and availability across all major industries and applications, including some in the toughest and most demanding environments. The division also has a long track record of designing and building generators for wide range of industries, including power generation, marine, oil and gas, mining, and data centers.
