Your role and responsibilities

Our team's mission is to drive innovations at the intersection of power electronic converters and microgrid integration, translating cutting-edge research into next-generation ABB products. We focus on converter operation, intelligent protection coordination, load sharing, and stabilizing control strategies. The work model for the role is: #LI-Hybrid

The main responsibilities include

  • Pioneer innovative concepts in power electronic converter-based, low voltage and medium voltage, AC and DC distribution systems

  • Conduct detailed simulations, algorithm development, and laboratory experiments and publish research findings and patent innovative solutions

  • Collaborate with global, multidisciplinary teams of scientists at ABB Research

  • Work closely with ABB business units to transition research into real-world applications, including data centers, integration of renewables, industrial electrification, e-mining, and marine systems

Qualifications for the role

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering with specialization in power electronics, power systems, or control

  • Proven research excellence demonstrated through high-impact publications and patents

  • Deep technical expertise in: - Power electronic converter topologies, modulation and control concepts - Interactions between converters, passive components, and protection devices - Microgrid modeling, optimization and stability analysis

  • Hands-on laboratory skills with a proactive, self-driven approach to designing, building, and testing converter systems and protection schemes. Versatile skill set with the ability to bridge theory and practice across multiple technical domains

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced industrial research environment and deliver results

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
