Lead Systems Test Engineer

Location: Eindhoven (Strijp-T) | Hours: 40 hours per week | Employment type: Direct employment

We're looking for a Lead Systems Test Engineer to join the Avular Team!

At Avular, we build physical mobile robots, drones and driving robots from the ground up. We're looking for a systems-minded test lead who combines hands-on testing of real, multidisciplinary hardware with a push for systematic process improvement in a young, dynamic robotics environment. You're a technical, quality-driven professional who makes sure that everything we ship results in mature products and processes, and who can coach test engineers and the organisation around them to mature Avular's test engineering competence.

🚀 YOUR MISSION

You can spread the importance of system integration and system-level testing of physical robots, and know how to balance rigid processes with an agile young company. You'll work across disciplines such as mechanical, electronics, embedded, and manufacturing to align the development team on the integration and test process. As a Senior/Lead Systems Test Engineer, you'll focus on defining company-wide testing processes, system- and hardware-level test strategies, and doing hands-on testing yourself when time permits.

You will contribute mainly to:

  • Defining project- and system-level test strategies for physical robotic products
  • Improving the test engineering way of working
  • Creating clear test plans and dedicated test cases for multidisciplinary hardware
  • Clarifying test requirements with engineers across disciplines
  • Executing and overseeing tests, test benches and their planning
  • Being thorough and detail-oriented in test execution and reporting
  • Making well-balanced, evidence-based release decisions on physical products

WHAT YOU BRING

You have:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechatronic, Mechanical or Electrical Systems Engineering
  • At least 8 years of relevant integration and testing experience of multidisciplinary (mechatronic) products — not pure software test
  • Been responsible for delivering complex mechatronic systems to market
  • Coordinated with regulatory compliance or external testing partners
  • Excellent proficiency in spoken and written English

As a testing professional, you have extensive experience with standard methods such as:

  • Risk assessments (FMEA / TRA)
  • Requirement management and configuration management
  • System- and hardware-level test methods: Environmental, HALT/HASS, integration, and user-validation testing
  • Analysing and quantifying physical measurement data and test results
  • Root cause analysis (8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa)

And as a hands-on technical engineer, you can define and work with test tooling through:

  • Measurement and sensor selection, data acquisition (DAQ) and processing
  • Building and maintaining automated test benches and test rigs
  • Scripting for test automation, DAQ and data analysis (Bash, Python, MATLAB)

It would be a nice bonus if you have:

  • EMC testing experience
  • HIL and/or SIL testing experience
  • CE and FCC certification experience
  • Version control of test assets and scripts (Git)
