Software Engineer

Location: Eindhoven (Strijp-T) | Hours: 40 hours per week | Employment type: Direct employment

We're looking for a Software Engineer to join the Avular Team!

At Avular, we are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic software engineer to strengthen our current team. Here you will work on developing and productizing software components for our modular robotics platforms. In this role, you will make sure that our control and algorithmic engineers can use our products with ROS to create more advanced features. So, you will become the bridge between our hardware and higher-level software engineers or control engineers.

🚀 YOUR MISSION

Avular designs and builds modular robotics platforms from the ground up. You will build and productise the onboard software for our driving robots, as well as co-develop the architecture it sits in. Your work is what allows our control and algorithm engineers to build higher-level autonomy on top, via ROS.

  • Design and build onboard applications in C++, with Python where it fits

  • Co-develop the software architecture — interfaces, structure, and how components fit together

  • Define and write requirements for new functionality

  • Work close to the hardware, including firmware where the role calls for it

  • Build the automated tests and documentation that make a feature genuinely done

  • Collaborate directly with hardware, control and algorithm engineers

⚡ WHO YOU ARE

  • BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Embedded Systems or a related field, or equivalent demonstrable experience

  • 3+ years' professional software engineering experience

  • Strong C++, with working Python

  • A track record of building maintainable, well-structured software — you think in interfaces, architecture and code review, not just working code

  • Unit and integration testing as standard practice, not an afterthought

  • Comfortable working on Linux and close to hardware; you've written software that runs on a physical machine, and you can hold your own with microcontrollers

  • Experience collaborating with hardware engineers in a multidisciplinary team

  • Affinity with mobile robots and autonomous systems

  • Professional working proficiency in English

Nice to have: Qt/QML application development · DevOps / CI-CD environments · ROS · Git, Jira, Confluence
